About Us

DiploCiencia is an online Peruvian initiative that seeks to promote and make visible the potential of Science Diplomacy in the development of our country. Our goal is to raise awareness, among Peruvian professionals and students linked to STEM, diplomacy, and politics, about the concept and role of Science Diplomacy.

Abstract Futuristic Background
History

DiploCiencia was born on September 8, 2021, as a response to the gap that exists between science and public policies and that became evident in Peru during the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative could materialize through a project of the Diploma of Scientific Divulgation, organized by the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) and sponsored by Concytec.

Vision

Become a promoter and facilitator of the interaction between professionals involved in the interface between science and public policies at a national and international level.

Mission

Make the concept of Scientific Diplomacy in Peru visible and install it in the imagination of authorities, universities and other higher education institutions, scientists, diplomats, public officials and, eventually, the general public. The first step to promoting Science Diplomacy is to make it known.

What do we believe?

At DiploCiencia we believe that scientific evidence can and should be integrated into State policies on issues of a national and international nature. Some of the pillars that we consider essential to achieve this are:

Commitment

with Peru.

Sustainability

for the well-being of the citizens (current and future).

Transparency

Solidarity

Communication

open and assertive

“Science diplomacy has several aspects. One of them is the collaboration of several countries to achieve great challenges, such as the large particle collider facilities, an example of Science Diplomacy. And science can also be used to settle political tensions between countries.”

Lawrence Melchior

Scientific Coordinator at the Spanish Embassy in London.
